| The first step to finding information on this site is selecting one
of our currently available indexes to search. Click on the 'Select Index To
Search' tab at the top of the page. |

On this screen a list of indexes will be displayed, click on the arrow at the
end of the box to see the list of indexes. Click on the one you require and
then click on the 'Go To Index' button. |

| The main page area will now display an introduction to the index
you have selected. On the left hand side of the screen a search area for that
particular index will appear. |

Enter all of the surname of the person you are searching for in the 'Surname'
box. If you want the system to find entries which only partially match the
details provided, enter part of the surname in the surname box and ensure that
the 'Partial Match' box is ticked. |

Some indexes may provide you date ranges to limit your search to or other text
boxes for entering other search criteria. These are optional and can be left
blank if you wish. |

Once you have entered all of the search criteria you wish to enter, click on
the 'GO' button at the base of the search box. The results of your
search will be shown on the main screen. |

A list of all records which match your search will be shown. Results are
returned alphabetically by surname in pages of 10 (which can be changed to 15
or 20 per page by clicking on the links at the bottom of the results).
The number of records returned is shown at the top right, the number of pages
in the top left. You can navigate the pages by using the arrow controls
provided. The single arrows will move you forward or backward a page, the double
arrows will move you to the first page or last page of the results. You can
also click on the page numbers to go straight to a particular page.
You can perform another search at any time by changing the search criteria you
have entered and clicking on 'GO' again. |

If the system can't find any records that match your search, a 'No Results
Found' screen will be displayed. |

| If this happens try modifying your search. Maybe try a different
spelling of the surname or do a partial match of a surname by typing in part of
the surname and ticking the partial match box. |

| Once you have found a record you would like more information on,
click on the name provided in the record. |
| |
| For the Diocese of Lichfield Wills and Staffordshire Apprentices indexes, you will now be taken to
a page which will show more detail for the record you have selected. To return
back to your search results from here simply click the 'Back To My Search'
button. |

| For other indexes clicking on the name will send you to the
document ordering page (to get here from the Diocese of Lichfield Wills Index or the Apprentices Index,
click the name to view the more detailed record then click on the 'Ordering
Photocopies' button provided below the record). |

The page will display the scope of work which will be undertaken
and the cost of the document. An 'Add To My Basket' button will also be displayed.
Please Note: There is no ordering option for the 'Workhouses 1836-1900' index.

If you wish to add the item to your basket, click on the 'Add To My Basket' button provided on the page.
The basket is shown on the left hand side of the web page. |

You will then be returned to your search, where you can add more items if required. You can also add items from other indexes.
Once you have listed all of the items you require in your basket, click on the 'View Basket' link |

| On clicking the 'View Basket' link, you will see a list of all of the items you have selected. You can remove any that you've added by mistake by clicking on the 'Remove Item' button provided next to the appropriate item. |

Then fill in the simple form and click on the 'Submit Request Form'. You will be asked for your name and contact email details only. We do not require you to enter any payment method or address details, one of our team will contact you to discuss your requirements.
You will receive an email confirming your request to the email address you enter in the form. |
